After completing his undergraduate studies in Chemistry at the University of Valladolid (Spain), he received his PhD in Material Chemistry by the University of Liverpool (UK) with the title "Novel Mixed Conducting Oxides for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) applications". In the frame of his PhD he spent 18 months in the CRISMAT Laboratory in Caen (France) where after defending his thesis he carried out a 1-year teaching position at the University of Caen-Basse Normandie. During this time, his research was focus on the synthesis of new materials with appropriate mixed conducting properties for SOFC applications and their both structural and electrochemical characterization.

Later and prior to join CIC Energigune, he spent 3 years as post-doctoral researcher at Risø National Lab in Roskilde (Denmark). In this place, his research was focus on both electrochemical and structural characterisation of solid oxide cells  (both fuel and electrolysis mode) and Lithium batteries by means of both full and symmetrical cell/battery electrochemical testing and modelling.
