Cristina Botas Velasco obtained the degree in Chemistry from University of Oviedo (Spain) in 2006. In 2007, she started her research career with Professor Domingo Blanco at Universidad of Oviedo (Spain); where she worked in the synthesis of stationary phases of Chromatography.

In 2010, she started her Thesis, "Synthesis and characterization of graphenic materials. Application to energy storage systems", at Instituto Nacional del Carbón (INCAR-CSIC, Spain) with Research Professor Rosa Menéndez. She obtained her PhD in June 2013.

Her current research includes the preparation and structural characterization of graphenic materials (graphene, graphene oxide and thermal/chemical reduced graphene oxide) and their applications (such as novel graphene-based energy storage devices).

Nowadays Cristina is a postdoctoral researcher at CIC Energigune (Miñano, Spain).
