Estibaliz Coya pursued her Bachelor of Chemistry from the University of Basque Country (Leioa, Spain) in 2009, where she did her undergraduate research and received her M. Sc. in the field of Synthetic and Industrial Chemistry in 2010.

In 2013, she obtained her PhD working under the guidance of Professors Esther Lete and Nuria Sotomayor on the "Intramolecular carbolithiation and palladium-catalyzed C-C bond forming reactions in the construction of medium sized rings. Selective synthesis of fused indolizine, pyrroloazepine and pyrroloazocine systems".  Meanwhile, she did a short stay at the Ludwig Maximilians Universität (Munich) 2012 under the supervision of Professor Paul Knochel.

Following the completion of his thesis degree, Estibaliz went on researching at the University of the Basque Country with a temporary contract for recent doctors focused on the development of new methods for asymmetric synthesis of heterocycles. In 2014, she joined the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia, where she first worked in a Cellex-ICIQ post-doctoral programme on high throughput experimentation with Professor Antonio Echavarren for the discovery and optimization of catalytic processes, and then joined the Shafir Group to work in a collaborative project ICIQ-Syngenta on pesticide targeting. Nowadays Estibaliz is a postdoctoral researcher at CIC Energigune (Miñano, Spain).
