Dr. Marcial Fernández Castro was born in Vigo, Galicia, Spain in 1991. He received a B.S degree in Physics from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2014. He received an M.S. degree in Energy and Sustainability from the University of Vigo and an M.S. degree in Material Science from the University of Seville (2016).
He worked for one year between 2017 and 2018 as a research assistant at the IMN-CSIC in Madrid under the supervision of Dr. José Miguel García-Martín and Dr. María Ujué González, co-authoring three peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Marcial Fernández Castro started his PhD studies at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in 2018. His PhD project was focused on the roll-processing of Organic Solar Cells, with the main aim of helping with the upscaling issues that the technology suffers, in order to overcome the so-called “scalability lag”. The PhD project was supervised by Prof. Jens Wenzel Andreasen and Dr. Moisés Espíndola-Rodríguez. The PhD thesis titled “Roll-processing of Organic Solar Cells with optimal morphology” was successfully defended on the 25th of February 2022. As a result of his scientific work during the project, four publications as the main author were published, and other several co-authorities.
Dr. Marcial Fernández Castro is currently working at CIC energiGUNE as a postdoctoral researcher in the Cell Prototyping group.
