Ana Belén Hernández Sánchez studied Industrial Engineering (2002-2008) at the University Carlos III of Madrid and specialized in Energy Engineering. The last year of her diploma degree she obtained an Erasmus grant to study at INSA-Rouen (France).

Subsequently, she completed a PhD (2008-2012) in Process Engineering at Aix-Marseille University (France) focused on the thermal gasification of sewage sludge. Her experimental work (M2P2 laboratory) allowed the characterization of the gas and solid products of this thermochemical process. Other than the combustible products, her research considered the pollutants present in the waste and their conversion during the process. She also developed a numerical model describing the behavior of a gasification fluidized bed reactor.

From 2012 to 2014 she participated, as a post-doctoral researcher (M2P2 laboratory), in the evolution of a R&D project focusing in the industrialization of waste gasification (AdWastoGas).

During these years she also worked as a teaching assistant at the Institute of Technology of Aix-Marseille University (2008-2011 and 2013, Department of Chemical and Process Engineering) and at the Faculty of Science of Aix-Marseille University (2011-2012).

From 2015 to 2016 she got a post-doctoral position in the departments of Chemical Engineering and Civil Engineering of the University of Johannesburg (South Africa) to study the torrefaction of waste.

Nowadays, she is working at CIC Energigune focusing on the modelling of Heat Storage systems.
