Elena C. Gonzalo Martín studied Chemistry at Complutense University (Madrid, Spain). She received her M. Sc. in "Synthesis assisted by MW energy of new cathode materials" in 2006 at Complutense University directed by Dr. Carmen Parada. During that period, she did a 6 month stay at Uppsala University (Sweden) in the research group headed by Professor Josh Thomas in the Ångström Laboratory.

She obtained her PhD in 2011 at Complutense University titled: "Transition Metal Fluorides and Chlorides as electrodes for lithium batteries with high specific energy: synthesis, structural characterization and electrochemical features" working with Prof. Flaviano García-Alvarado and Dr. Alois Kuhn. She has got the PhD Thesis Award of 2010-2011 of the Chemistry Faculty of Complutense University. During her PhD she went to Germany for a 2-month stay and worked in Prof. H.-J. Meyer group (University of Tubingen, 2007) where she learnt new synthesis methods to obtain Nb-cluster compounds. In 2011 she went to England, to Prof S. Islam group (University of Bath) for 2 more months, where she studied Li-Fe-F based compounds with simulation methods.

After that period she has worked as a PostDoc researcher at Universidad San Pablo CEU and at Complutense University both located in Madrid, collaborating in International Research projects. She has also worked as a lecturer for the 1st course of Pharmacy Degree. Nowadays, she is working at CICenergigune as an Associate Researcher focusing on new Li- and Na- based electrode materials for rechargeable batteries.
