The initiative is part of the "Emakumeak Zientzian" program, organized by the main research agents and entities in the Basque Country together with Basque institutions and universities to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, and will offer workshops and recreational activities led by professionals from the center itself.

CIC energiGUNE, a leading Basque research center in electrochemical energy storage and conversion and thermal energy storage and conversion, will join the celebrations of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science with a playful-scientific fair aimed at children between 12 and 16 years old, which will take place on February 14 at the Salburua Civic Center in Vitoria-Gasteiz, from 18:00h to 20:00h. The initiative is part of the "Emakumeak Zientzian" program, in which CIC energiGUNE participates together with the main research agents and entities in the Basque Country, as well as institutions and universities, with the aim of promoting and making visible the role of women in science.

The "Women in Science´25" Fair includes the realization of several workshops linked to scientific projects, which will have the active participation and dynamization of a representation of its research staff. There will also be several theatrical and audiovisual performances, all with the aim of raising awareness of the role that women have been playing in science and technology since its very origins. In this way, the participating children will be able to get to know live the women scientists who, from the Euskadi Technology Park in Vitoria-Gasteiz, contribute every day to understanding the world around us.

Participation in the fair is open to any boy or girl interested in science, technology, engineering or mathematics, but it is necessary to register in advance on the website of the initiative "Emakumeak Zientzian", through this link. For those registered, "Women in Science´25" promises "a fun afternoon participating in various activities, meeting women scientists and having the opportunity to ask them directly any questions or curiosity".

"Women scientists of yesterday and today"

In addition to the science fair, Vitoria-Gasteiz will also host other activities linked to the celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science and the "Emakumeak Zientzian" initiative. This is the case of the talk "Women scientists of yesterday and today", which will be given by CIC energiGUNE senior researcher Maica Morant.

The event will take place on February 11 at the Barandiaran Hall of the Europa Conference Center, from 18:00 to 19:00h, and will pay tribute to some of the great scientists of history. Maica Morant will present the career of Marion Donovan, American inventor and entrepreneur whose tireless work allowed the creation of disposable diapers that we know and still use today.

The "Emakumeak Zientzian" agenda in Vitoria-Gasteiz is completed with the screening of the film Le théorème de Marguerite - Marguerite´s Theorem (Anne Navion, 2024) at Artium Museoa, on February 13 at 19:00h. And at the Salburua Civic Center, finally, you can enjoy the exhibition on women scientists and technologists organized by the Euskadi Technology Park, which refers to the work of several CIC energiGUNE researchers.

"Emakumeak Zientzian" is an initiative aimed at making the work of women visible, through different activities, with the aim of creating female references and promoting practices that allow achieving gender equality in the scientific field. In this sense, it should be noted that CIC energiGUNE is one of the research centers of reference in equality, since for years there has been parity in the whole of its staff, including the management area, which is a milestone at national level.
