The objective of this innovative project is to develop a cold storage system that will make the energy management of refrigeration facilities more flexible, optimizing energy consumption and reducing the environmental impact.
HotzGUNE has the experience and scientific background of CIC energiGUNE, a research center internationally recognized for its expertise in materials for energy storage systems. CIC energiGUNE participates in the project as a member of the Basque Science and Technology Alliance (BRTA), contributing its knowledge and technology in the development of innovative materials to achieve the proposed objectives.
A comprehensive project with an innovative approach
The development of HotzGUNE covers the entire cold storage value chain, from the identification of refrigeration management needs to the design and validation of a prototype in the laboratory. The project, funded by SPRI´s HAZITEK 2024 call for proposals, has a budget of 449,999.49€, and will run from April 1, 2024 to December 31, 2026, during which time advanced research and technological testing will be carried out to achieve an unprecedented energy density and sustainability system.
Overcoming technological challenges with advanced research
The HotzGUNE project faces an ambitious challenge, given that there are currently no cold storage solutions with the ambition of the project on the market. The key to development lies in two fundamental pillars:
- Design of innovative eutectic blends, combining different families of storage materials to reduce material cost and improve efficiency.
- Development of elastic encapsulation media compatible with the material to ensure the stability of the solution.
This scientific-technological approach will allow the development of a highly efficient and competitive product, adapted to the needs of a market with a high demand and wide application opportunities.
