CIC energiGUNE, the Basque research center of reference in electrochemical and thermal energy storage and conversion, is leading the NMR4LICS project, funded under the 2021 State Call for Knowledge Generation Projects.

The aim of the initiative is to develop new nanostructured materials for lithium hybrid supercapacitors, thereby optimizing their energy density, power, and stability. To achieve this, the project will employ solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), enabling the atomic-level analysis of charge storage mechanisms and guiding the design of more efficient materials.

Lithium hybrid supercapacitors combine a battery-type electrode and a supercapacitor-type electrode in a single device, making them an attractive solution for applications such as the electrification of urban transport (electric buses and trams).

With NMR4LICS, CIC energiGUNE strengthens its role in the development of advanced energy storage technologies, aligned with the challenges of the energy transition.
