Aitor earned his PhD in Materials Science at the University of the Basque Country in 2016, with a thesis focused on the synthesis and characterization of materials for their application as anodes in sodium-ion batteries.
In 2017, he joined CIDETEC as a researcher in the lithium-ion group and, in 2020, took on the role of Team Leader of the Li-ion Prototyping group. He has more than 10 years of experience participating in research projects related to Li-ion and Na-ion batteries and has managed more than 50 R&D projects in collaboration with private entities.
As a result of his scientific activity, he is the author of 20 scientific publications. In addition, at industrial level, he is the author of one patent related to aqueous processing for electrode manufacturing, as well as two Intellectual Property Registrations, IPR, associated with the development of Li-ion cells for power and energy applications.
In 2026, he moved to CIC energiGUNE to lead the “Applied Cell Engineering & Process Intelligence” team, to strengthen the link between research and industrial application, combining cell engineering, processing, prototyping, testing, digital manufacturing and modelling.
