Alex Aziz completed his MSc degree at University College London (Department of Chemistry) in Materials for Energy in 2013. He then moved to the University of Reading to complete his PhD in the Department of Chemistry under the supervision of Dr Ricardo Grau-Crespo. His doctoral studies focused on computational simulations of energy materials with an emphasis on photocatalysis and thermoelectrics, a class of materials that convert heat directly into electricity. After completing his PhD in 2017 he moved to the atomistic modelling group of Prof. Saiful Islam at the University of Bath. Working as a Postdoctoral Researcher he investigated hybrid-halide perovskites for photovoltaic applications. These materials have shown remarkable photo-conversion efficiencies and are simple and cheap to fabricate yet suffer from degradation over short timescales. His research focused on the fundamental understanding of these materials and their degradation mechanisms. In 2020 he moved to Queen Mary University of London to work as a Lecturer before joing CIC energiGUNE in December 2020.

At CIC energiGUNE he use his computational modelling expertise to guide the research and development of new battery materials.
