DOMENICO FRATTINI

Presentation

Dr. Domenico Frattini received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering for his work on innovative composites cathode materials for Microbial Fuel Cells (MFCs) in May 2016 from the University of Naples “Parthenope”, M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering for his work on the catalytic gasification of biomass in fluidized bed reactors (March 2012), and B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering on the use of oleaginous microorganism for biodiesel synthesis (December 2008), both from the University of Naples “Federico II”. During his M.Sc., he had a pre-graduation trainee at CNR – Institute for Research on Combustion. He won a post-graduate scholarship in the R&D Project “FC SMARTGEN – Hybrid-polygeneration platforms for fossil fuels/renewable sources” (July 2012) at University of Naples Parthenope, learning the basis of, and working on, Fuel cell, Battery, and Thermal Storage technologies. Dr. Frattini had also experience in writing and submitting European R&D projects (FSE-PON 2007-2013 financing programme) on Fuel Cells, Materials for Energy and Water Management (2014). In 2015, he visited the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) for 11 months as an exchange Ph.D. Student with a scholarship in the R&D project “GRL - Basic studies on durable and cost-effective components for high temperature fuel cells running on alternative fuels”, working on materials and components for Molten Carbonate Fuel Cells (MCFCs), and Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs). From May 2017 to July 2020 he was a KRF Postdoc fellow, and joined Seoultech with a project focussed on nanostructured electrodes and membranes for biofuel cells, funded by the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF). He was also involved in teaching and tutorial activities for B.Sc. students in Italy (2013-2014) and for M.Sc. students in Korea (2018-2019). His main research achievements are in the field of materials science and engineering, rational design and formulation of electrode materials for energy devices, advanced characterization of materials and components by various techniques (TG, SEM-EDS, XRD, FT-IR, MIP, Electric/Microstructural techniques, Physical characterizations, Mechanical testing, EIS, CV, LSV, XPS, Raman). He has also interests and skills in FEM modelling and simulation, and chemical plants flowsheeting.
