Jon Rodríguez Romero began his academic training with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), which he completed in 2019. He pursued a Master’s in New Materials at the same university (2019-2020).
In 2020, he started his PhD in Materials Science and Technology at the University of the Basque Country, completing it in December 2024 with Cum Laude distinction and eligibility for an extraordinary award. His doctoral research focused on the development of hybrid supercapacitors, ranging from aqueous asymmetric systems to lithium-ion (Li-ion) and sodium-ion (Na-ion) capacitors. During his thesis, he gained extensive experience in characterizing electrodes and full systems for both batteries and supercapacitors.
In 2023, he conducted an international research stay at the Università di Camerino (Italy), where he performed advanced studies on the characterization of the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) in pre-cycled sodium-ion system electrodes using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Throughout his career, he has complemented his training with specialized courses in advanced characterization techniques, including XPS and X-ray diffraction, and has delivered 248 hours of university teaching.
Jon has now joined CIC energiGUNE as a Researcher within the Cell Design and Manufacturing Group, part of the Electrochemical Energy Storage and Conversion Area.
