Nerea Azcona Aliende obtained her degree in chemistry at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in 2021. During the degree she did an extracurricular internship at the Public University of Navarra (UPNA), where she also did her Degree’s Thesis. In both cases, she worked on the synthesis and characterization of lanthanide-doped siliceous xerogels for their application in fiber optic sensors. In 2022 she completed a master in New Materials taught by the UPV/EHU and the University of Cantabria (UC), and completed her Master’s Thesis on silica xerogels functionalized with lanthanides and organic fluorophores for their application as chemical sensors.
She is currently working at CIC energiGUNE as a pre-doctoral researcher in the Electrochemical Energy Storage area within the Electrochemical hydrogen technologies group, in order to carry out her thesis on the development of low-cost catalysts for alkaline electrolysers.
