The initiative, which is part of the "Emakumeak Zientzian" program organized by the main research agents and organizations in the Basque Country to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, will take place on February 16 at the Salburua Civic Center.

CIC energiGUNE, the Basque research center of reference in electrochemical energy storage, thermal energy storage and conversion and hydrogen technologies, will celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science with a playful-scientific fair aimed at children between 12 and 16 years old, which will take place on February 16 at the Salburua Civic Center in Vitoria-Gasteiz and in which a large representation of its professional staff will carry out the dynamization work. The initiative is part of the "Emakumeak Zientzian" program, in which CIC energiGUNE participates together with the main research agents and entities in the Basque Country with the aim of promoting and making visible the role of women in science.

Under the title "Women in Science 2024", the fair promoted by CIC energiGUNE includes several workshops related to scientific projects, as well as theater and audiovisual performances. The aim is to raise awareness of the role that women have been playing in science and technology since its very origins and to have the opportunity to meet live women scientists who, from Vitoria-Gasteiz, contribute every day to understand the world around us.

To participate in the fair it is necessary to register on the website of the initiative "Emakumeak Zientzian", through this link. CIC energiGUNE reminds that the program is primarily aimed at youngsters between 12 and 16 years old with an interest in science, technology, engineering or mathematics, "who are willing to spend a fun afternoon participating in various activities, meet scientists and ask any questions they may have".

"Scientists of yesterday and today".

On the other hand, the CIC energiGUNE scientist Montse Galcerán will be one of the protagonists of the day to be held at the Villa Suso Palace in the capital of Alava, also in the framework of "Emakumeak Zientzian", and that will allow to discover "women scientists of yesterday and today". Specifically, Galcerán will be one of the five women scientists working in research centers in the Basque Country who will take the stage of the Villa Suso Palace to talk about the research in which they are immersed and pay tribute to some of the great women scientists of history through the story of their fascinating lives and scientific contributions.

In the case of Montse Galcerán, who works on the design and optimization of new low-cost and environmentally sustainable materials at CIC energiGUNE, the tribute will focus on Vicenta Arnal, the first doctor in Chemical Sciences in Spain. The event will take place on February 15 at 18:00h, and it is necessary to register at this link.

Emakumeak Zientzian is an initiative aimed at making the work of women visible, through different activities, with the aim of creating female references and promoting practices that allow gender equality to be achieved in the scientific field. In this sense, it should be noted that CIC energiGUNE is one of the research centers of reference in equality, since for years there has been parity in the whole of its staff, including the management area, which is a milestone at national level.
