Stiven Lopez Guzman obtained his degree in Nanotechnology Engineering at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in 2019. During his undergraduate program, he collaborated with MSc students on the electrospinning of lithium-ferrophosphate (LFP) fibers for battery applications. In mid-2018 worked for one year in the private sector as an operator performing quality control analysis for the pharmaceutical industry of particle size, rheology, electron microscopy, and compositional analysis.
In mid-2019, he obtained a scholarship from the national agency for higher education (SAPIENCIA) to elaborate master´s studies in energy storage systems at the Pontifical Bolivarian University. During this time, he also worked on a research project between his university and the Queen Mary University of London. This project sought to give value to the biomass residues of fique (a local plant). From this research, Stiven developed his master´s thesis, in which he manufactured bacterial nanocellulose membranes from residuals of fique and then, after drying and carbonizing them, the obtained carbonaceous materials were tested as electrodes for double-layer supercapacitors and battery anodes, evaluating the effect of temperature and drying techniques on the electrochemical performance of the material.
In 2021 Stiven received a scholarship for an academic visit to different Universities and research centers in Germany, with a grant awarded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD); after this, he participated in a four-month internship in London in a group of Dr Ana Jorge Sobrido. During this time, Stiven conducted academic research on green materials for energy storage, such as bacterial cellulose and lignin.
Finally, in 2022 he obtained his master´s degree with the distinction of an honorary degree. Since June, he has been working as a researcher at his university on a project; this project seeks to determine the estimation of battery health through non-destructive techniques, like ultrasound.
He is currently a predoctoral researcher at CIC energiGUNE in the Advance Electrode materials group, in the area of electrochemical energy storage.
