Jonatan Pérez Arce obtained his degree in Industrial Chemical Engineering (2013) and master’s degree in Chemical Engineering (2016) at the University of the Basque Country. During this period, he worked on the treatment of phenolic residues in wastewater, and later, on the chemical modification of vegetable oils. In 2020, he got his PhD in Renewable Materials Engineering under the supervision of the University of the Basque Country and Tecnalia. The aim of his thesis was the development of new synthesis routes for obtaining lignin-based polymers for their subsequent use in different applications, such as polyurethane formulation and thermal energy storage materials. Afterward, he continued his professional career related to the valorisation of lignocellulosic biomass and vegetable oils for the formulation of bio-based composites, working as a technician in R&D projects at CETIM Foundation Technological Centre. In 2022, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Biorefinery Processes research group at the University of the Basque Country working on lignocellulosic material fragmentation processes. In March 2022, Jonatan Pérez Arce joined CIC energiGUNE as a postdoctoral researcher, where he is currently involved in the design and synthesis of sustainable ionic liquids and organic ionic plastic crystals as phase change materials for energy storage.
