Javier Carretero Gonzalez studied Chemistry at the Universidad Complutense (Spain). He spend some time in 2004 at the Institute of Ceramic and Glass (CSIC, Madrid) working on nanostructured ceramic materials. He received his M. Sc. in the field of nanostructured catalytic materials in 2006 at the Institute of Catalysis and Petroleochemistry (CSIC, Madrid). He obtained his PhD in 2009 working in polymer nanocomposites with Dr. Miguel Angel Lopez Manchado at the Institute of Polymer Science and Technology (CSIC, Madrid). During that time he visited Prof. Kay Salwaechter's group at Martin-Luther University (Germany) as well as the Materials Science and Technology department at Cornell University (USA) working with Prof. Emmanuel P. Giannelis. Also, he spent some time with Prof. Benjamin S. Hsiao and Dr. Shigeyuki Toki at BNL (USA).

Before finish his thesis Javier joined to Nanotech Institute at University of Texas at Dallas (USA) in July 2008 under the supervision of Professor Ray H. Baughman first as a PhD student and later as a research associate. At Nanotech he was working on multifunctional materials based on carbon nanotubes, graphene nanoribbons, electrochemical double layer capacitors as well as in the rational design of carbon nanotubes of unique type. Nowadays Javier is a postdoctoral researcher at CIC Energigune (Miñano, Spain).
