Dr. Nebil A. Katcho obtained his PhD in 2009 from the Complutense University of Madrid, under the supervision of Prof. Enrique Lomba (Institute of Physical Chemistry Rocasolano, CSIC) and Prof. Luis Carlos Otero Díaz (Inorganic Chemistry Department, Complutense University). His thesis was devoted to the structural characterization of disordered systems by combining atomistic simulation methods with spectroscopic and diffraction techniques. He studied a wide range of systems, with different physical properties, as liquids, disordered solids and strained nanostructures. This made him possible to acquire experience with different simulation methods (ab initio and classical simulations) and experimental techniques (EELS, XAFS, anomalous X-ray diffraction).

He continued his structural studies in Madrid (Physical Chemistry Department, Complutense University) and Zaragoza (Condensed Matter Department, University of Zaragoza) until 2011, when he moved to LITEN (CEA-Grenoble). He worked for three years in the group of Natalio Mingo, devoted to the search of efficient thermoelectrics. His studies were focused on the ab initio computation of the thermal conductivity of semiconductor nanostructured materials by solving the Boltzmann Transport Equation. In particular, the quantification of the reduction on thermal conductivity by defects and nanostructuring.
